Our Curriculum

Our professional and dedicated team harness their knowledge to provide stimulating and educational activities that inspire, challenge and engage children.

At Elephant Moon Day Nurseries we help children to learn through imaginative discovery and play. We follow the Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth up to five years of age.

The aim of the EYFS is to provide a secure foundation for all children for good progress through school and life. Our curriculum covers all the key areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage and is designed to meet the needs of every individual child.

The principles that guide the work of our Early Years Professionals are grouped into four themes:

A unique child – every child is a competent leaner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured

Positive Relationships – children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or key person

Enabling Environments – the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning

Learning and Development – children develop and learn in different ways and at different times; all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.

There are seven areas of learning in which our Early Years Professionals support children to learn and develop. These are:

Personal, social and emotional development
Communication and language
Physical development
Knowledge and understanding of the world
Literacy
Mathematics
Expressive arts and design

Our nursery managers are qualified Early Years Teachers and work with Room Leaders to devise tailored, stimulating and enriching curriculums. Activities are shared with parents on a daily basis via an online learning journey.

Environments that enable

Our nursery are designed to promote the seven areas of learning by providing rich and varied opportunities for children to explore and learn. We are responsive in our approach; we frequently bring themes and activities from children’s home lives into the nursery setting so they can share their interests and experiences with their friends. This creates social opportunities and fosters a sense of community. By also taking inspiration for activities from what’s happening around us we help children engage with the wider world.

Building positive relationships

We assign each child their own key person so that every child feels reassured, safe and cared for. This person is also responsible for recording a detailed Learning Journey that charts the child’s progress during their time with us. Parents are always welcome to view and discuss these records; furthermore they are encouraged to add details of their child’s experiences outside nursery hours.

I can't recommend Elephant Moon Nursery highly enough. They have cared for all three of my children with genuine affection, patience and care. All three left Elephant Moon feeling more than ready to embark on school and their teachers have commented on how well prepared they have been with regards their independence and knowledge (e.g. phonics, numbers and shapes), much of that is thanks to their time spent at Elephant Moon. Amanda is always flexible, accommodating and striving to keep the setting open come rain, shine, Covid or snow! I have always been given detailed information about their activities every day - both through Tapestry and a daily diary - and all members of staff have been totally respectful of maintaining my children’s routine. I’ve been particularly impressed by the fact that both the staff who oversee the various rooms and the management are incredibly knowledgeable about every individual child which implies a real involvement in the children’s care. Most importantly, both of my children are happy, settled and confident and have developed innumerable social and academic skills thanks to their attendance at this setting. Amanda is a fantastic manager - it's a really hard job managing stressed parents, a young workforce and all the regulatory requirements - and for much of our experience, a pandemic too! As a first time mum, I was anxious about leaving my child with someone else but Elephant moon instantly put my mind at ease with regular updates and communications throughout the day.
